Arrest warrant leads to weapon charge

A 46-year-old man wanted on outstanding warrants now faces a weapon charge.

A Sarnia police officer on patrol in the area of Exmouth Street and Copland Road spotted the man shortly before 10 a.m.

He was wanted for arrest warrants with both the Sarnia Police Service (SPS) and the Anishinabek Police Service.

It's alleged when the officer approached the man he became uncooperative, refused to stop and clenched his fists while stating "you're not going to arrest me."

The officer was able to quickly de-escalate the situation and he was taken into custody without further incident.

During a search, police found a concealed but readily accessible knife.

Police said when they took the knife the man allegedly threatened the officer with death.

SPS learned the man was not allowed to have any weapons unless it was for hunting or fishing purposes.

He's charged with possession of weapon for a dangerous purpose, uttering threats causing death and failing to comply with a judicial release order.
