Hundreds of local students suspended from school

Over 400 students across Sarnia-Lambton stayed home from school Tuesday.

Lambton Public Health said a total of 444 elementary and secondary school students have been suspended under the Immunization of School Pupils Act for out of date immunization records.

That number is down significantly from a week ago when the health unit was still waiting to hear from about 1,000 students.

Supervisor Carshenan Lai said requirements remain the same and parents or guardians still need to report the immunization status of their child including any immunization received or exemption.

Records include immunizations for diphtheria, tetanus, polio, mumps, rubella, measles, meningitis, whooping cough and chicken pox.

Lai said if your child requires an immunization, you can book an appointment with your health care provider and contact Lambton Public Health to report the appointment date.

Immunizations can be reported online at LambtonPublicHealth.ca or by calling the health unit at 226-254-8222.
