Damage is estimated at $250,000 in an apartment fire Tuesday, just north of Bluewater Health.
Sarnia Fire and Rescue Services and Sarnia police were called to a Durand Street property, near Russell Street at about 3:15 p.m.
Upon arrival firefighters discovered heavy smoke coming from a second-floor apartment unit. The blaze was brought under control in about an hour, and fire officials said the fire was contained to the unit.
Nobody was in the unit at the time of the blaze, but a dog inside the apartment was rescued and nursed back to health using Resus-A-Pet. All other occupants were able to exit the building safely.
One firefighter sustained minor injuries during the operation.
The cause of the fire has been determined to be accidental.
