Woman arrested after allegedly assaulting man with hammer

The Sarnia Police Service has charged a 43-year-old woman with assault with a weapon following an altercation on Friday afternoon.

At around 3 p.m., police responded to multiple 911 calls requesting an ambulance for an injured male.

Officers arrived at Kathleen Avenue and Walnut Avenue to find a 28-year-old male with facial injuries.

According to police, he had been involved in a physical fight with another male inside a Kathleen Avenue residence over illegal drugs.

Allegedly, a female present at that location then joined the fray, striking the victim in the face multiple times with a claw hammer.

The woman was located nearby and arrested.

Police said the victim sustained a large gash on his upper lip that required 25 stitches and was transported to Bluewater Health for treatment.

The woman is also charged with assault causing bodily harm.

Police said the other involved male has been identified and the SPS Criminal Investigations Division is continuing this investigation.
