Over 150 secondary students suspended from school

Lambton Public Health said 156 local high school students were suspended from school as of Tuesday morning.

The health unit said it has not yet received updated immunization records or proof of exemption for those kids, and in accordance with the Immunization of School Pupils Act, they were suspended.

That number is down by about half from last Wednesday, when the health unit was still waiting to hear from 313 students.

Lambton Public Health said parents or guardians whose children have received suspension orders are encouraged to contact the health unit to report their immunizations or exemptions. You can also update records online at GetTheVaccine.ca.

Records include immunizations for diphtheria, tetanus, polio, mumps, rubella, measles, meningitis, whooping cough and chicken pox.

On March 5, 390 elementary school students were suspended due to out-of-date records.

As of March 26, that number had dropped to nine.
