Caughlin death investigation marks 50 years

This Saturday marks the 50 anniversary of the death of 14-year-old Karen Lee Ann Caughlin.

On the morning of March 16, 1974 the body of the Sarnia teen was found in a ditch just west of Petrolia near the side of Plowing Match Road, between Churchill Line and Lasalle Line.

The night before, Caughlin had been at the "Rose Garden Roller Rink" in Point Edward, and was dropped off at a girlfriend's house on Brock Street in Sarnia at around midnight, but never made it inside.

In 2017, police said new information in the case had revealed that her injuries were consistent with being struck by a motor vehicle. Police said it was a purple, 1970-71 Chrysler high performance vehicle.

It's believed her body was moved from where she was hit to where it was eventually discovered.

The Ontario Provincial Police is offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for Caughlin's death.

Anyone with information is urged to call Ontario Provincial Police at 1-888-310-1122 or *OPP (677) on your mobile phone, or Sarnia-Lambton Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
