Inquest begins into death of Travis Havers

An inquest will begin Monday morning into the death of a 31-year-old man who died while in custody at the Sarnia Jail.

Travis Havers died on December 5, 2020.

The inquest, which will begin at 9:30 a.m. on March 4, will examine the circumstances of his death and a jury may make recommendations to prevent further deaths.

The probe is expected to last five days and the jury will hear from approximately six witnesses.

The inquest will be held over video conference and members of the public will be able to watch the proceedings through a provided link.

As specified by the Ministry of the Solicitor General, Daniel Ambrosini will be the presiding officer and Aniko Coughlan will be the inquest counsel.

An inquest into Havers' death is mandatory under the Coroners Act.
