The City of Sarnia is gathering input as staff review the current Business Licensing Bylaw with a focus on where refreshment vehicles, such as food trucks, can operate.
The city recently launched a survey on the Speak Up Sarnia website to gauge input from residents and the business community.
City Clerk Amy Burkhart said the bylaw review is part of the waterfront master plan, to determine if the existing regulations are still warranted.
"These regulations include the requirement for distance separation of 300 feet from the entrance of an eating establishment which sells similar offerings, 600 feet from other licenced refreshment vehicles and 20 feet from the entrance to any buildings or bus stops," she said.
As specified online, a refreshment vehicle can include carts, wagons, tricycles, and mobile canteens. Changes made to the bylaw may see the possible expansion of acceptable locations where refreshment vehicles can operate.
The short survey asks respondents to comment on the advantages or disadvantages of refreshment vehicle operations in the community.
The survey will be available until March 7.
So far, Burkhart said there has been a strong response to the survey but the feedback has not yet been reviewed.
Burkhart said they're hoping to report back to council in the spring with survey results and recommendations.
