Temperature records broken in Sarnia this week

New temperature records were unofficially set in Sarnia-Lambton on Thursday and Friday.

On Thursday, it got up to 11 Celsius, breaking the all-time high for February 8 which was 9.2 C, set in 1990.

The temperature reached 16 C on Friday, topping the previous mark for February 9.

That happened just last year, when the temperature reached 13.2 C.

Environment Canada Meteorologist Geoff Coulson attributed the mild conditions to a big flow of air coming from the southwest.

After getting up to around 9 C on Saturday, with a chance of showers, it'll cool off again with highs of 1 C and 2 C on Sunday and Monday respectively.

Coulson said conditions will become more seasonal toward the end of February.

"The long-range forecast for after Valentine's Day, after about mid-month, sees a return to more seasonal temperatures generally across southwestern Ontario. What that could mean for Sarnia is daytime highs of around -1 C and overnight lows near -9 C," he said.
