Lambton Public Heath has issued a suspected opioid toxicity advisory after an increase in drug- related deaths.
It was issued Friday evening after recent reports of suspected overdoses and drug related deaths.
LPH is advising people who use drugs to take extra caution such as, don't mix drugs with alcohol or other drugs, carry a Naloxone kit, know the signs of an overdose and don't use alone.
The health unit said signs of an overdose can include:
difficulty walking, talking or staying awake
blue or grey lips or nails
very small pupils
cold and clammy skin
dizziness and confusion
extreme drowsiness
choking, gurgling or snoring sounds
slow, weak or no breathing
inability to wake up, even when shaken or shouted at.
LPH also said that Naloxone kits are available at the health unit, local pharmacies and several partner agencies including Community Health Centres.
In the event of an overdose people are being advised to administer Naloxone if you have it, call 9-1-1 and to stay on the scene to speak with paramedics and know that the Good Samaritan Overdose Act protects you.
