UPDATE: Winter weather travel advisory ends

Snow and gusty winds made for a messy Wednesday morning commute in parts of Lambton County.

A winter weather travel advisory was put in place for north and east Lambton, but it was lifted at around noon.

Environment Canada said this was the first accumulating lake effect snow event of the season for most areas.

Snowfall accumulations of up to 15 centimetres were reported in the most persistent snow bands.

The national weather agency said the morning commute Wednesday, particularly along the stretch of Highway 402 between Watford and north of Strathroy, and Highway 21 between Port Elgin and Kettle Point was affected.

Motorists were being told to expect hazardous winter driving conditions and adjust travel plans accordingly. Visibility was suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow.

The lake effect snow tapered in intensity by late morning.
