Sarnia Fire ends ban on backyard fires

Sarnia residents will be able to have a backyard fire this Canada Day.

On Saturday morning, Sarnia Fire lifted a temporary ban on recreational open-air burning, which came into effect Tuesday.

The restriction was put in place after Environment Canada issued a Special Air Quality Statement for the area earlier in the week. That statement came to an end at around 9:30 p.m. Friday.

In a media release, Fire Chief Bryan Van Gaver thanked Sarnia residents for their assistance in reducing the impact of smoke on air quality.

The release also said while air quality continues to improve, residents are advised to follow the directions of Lambton Public Health as it relates to air-quality-related health concerns.
