Petrolia launches Youth Advisory Committee

In an effort to engage more with the younger generation, the Town of Petrolia has launched a new Youth Advisory Committee and is currently accepting applications.

Council had approved a motion to develop the youth committee during a council meeting in March, and a by-law was unanimously approved during a meeting on April 11.

One of the advisory committee's key priorities will be to develop a Youth Summit, which will feature a weekend tradeshow and events geared toward youth members.

"The Town of Petrolia is pleased to be offering an opportunity for more youth to be involved with the Municipality, and Council is pleased to support this important initiative that will bridge a gap in our community," said Acting Mayor Joel Field in a statement. "Council and staff look forward to working with the youth, and to sharing knowledge and experiences.”

Applications are available at area schools, the municipal office, and online. Applicants can also find a full list of objectives on the town's website.

Completed forms can be submitted in person at 411 Greenfield St. or via email at mpearson@petrolia.ca by May 12.
