Pathways Health Centre has a new HVAC unit on its roof thanks to a roughly $150,000 grant from Ontario's Trillium Foundation.
On Wednesday, Pathway representatives and Sarnia-Lambton MPP Bob Bailey watched on as the unit was hoisted onto the Sarnia site.
Pathways Community and Corporate Partnerships Tim Bechard said it will service the aquatics area.
"Currently the changerooms are all serviced by one unit and the airflow wasn't ideal as you got to sort of the end of the line, and so by adding a second unit we can increase the airflow through all four changerooms," said Bechard. "We've also added UV sterilization inline lighting to the ductwork throughout Pathways."
Bechard said the unit, weighing about 800 lbs., is expected to be up and running by January. The cost of the entire project was roughly $170,000.
Bechard said part of the $149,500 in funding will go towards a pool efficiency study.
"So the pool use, obviously, has been greatly impacted by COVID, and as part of our restart we've commissioned a consultant pool study on how we can best use and gain the most efficiencies from that operation."
MPP Bailey said the foundation has given out over $200-million this year from money generated through OLG and casinos.
Bailey said it's a pleasure working with Pathways.
"Of course we've worked on the pool and a number of expansions and improvements they made here, and great foresight that Rotary and the people that put this site together a number of years ago in this city and this county."
In 2020, Pathways received a Trillium Grant of $148,500 for its “Save the Therapeutic Pool” campaign.
Over the past year, Pathways has helped around 3,700 clients under the age of 18.
