Impaired driver involved in fiery crash

A Petrolia man has been charged with impaired driving following a fiery crash in Sarnia late Friday afternoon.

Cst. John Sottosanti said at around 5:45 p.m., police were called to the corner of Fanshawe Drive and Finch Drive after a vehicle had been struck from the rear by the suspect. Sarnia Fire also attended the scene after the suspect's vehicle caught fire and had to be extinguished.

After speaking with the accused, police arrested the man for impaired driving. The 28-year-old was taken to police headquarters where he provided breath samples over twice the legal limit.

The suspect's licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for seven days.

Sottosanti said while this incident did not result in any serious injuries, police wish to remind drivers that drinking and driving can end in catastrophic results with both property damage and loss of life.

Sottosanti said if you choose to drink, do not drive. Take a cab, Uber, or have someone sober drive you.
