The Oil Museum of Canada is gaining provincial recognition for its new and innovative exhibitions, nearly a year after winning an award for its programs.
The museum in Oil Springs recently received the Award of Excellence in Exhibitions from the Ontario Museum Association (OMA).
The museum reopened earlier this year after "significant" renovations were completed. The exhibition space was transformed to incorporate the original architectural vision and new interactive technology to enhance the visitor experience.
Curator and Supervisor Erin Dee-Richard said they knew the changes were good based on feedback from new and returning visitors, but it's nice to get recognition from industry peers.
"The one thing we struggle with sometimes is that people don't think about the Oil Museum of Canada being in Ontario, let alone in a small town," laughed Dee-Richard. "So just getting more -- even the museum industry -- getting our name out there to more people to want to visit us … It's nice to be able to put that feather in our hat."
Last winter, the museum was recognized by the OMA with an Award of Excellence in Programs.
The Oil Museum of Canada is open on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m., and on Thursdays from 11 a.m. until 8:30 p.m.
Dee-Richard said attendance is back to pre-pandemic levels with school tours and upcoming holiday programming.
