A high school in Sarnia will be closed for in-person learning on Thursday while police investigate the discovery of a concerning message.
The Lambton-Kent District School Board (LKDSB) issued a statement early Wednesday evening that Northern Collegiate Institute and Vocational School (NCIVS) will move to remote learning on Thursday due to safety concerns after a "disturbing message" was found at the school around the end of the school day Wednesday.
"The disturbing messaging was specific to the NCIVS site and the concern does not extend to any other schools in the area," read a statement from LKDSB Director John Howitt. "Student and staff safety is a top priority for the LKDSB, and we work with local police to determine the appropriate actions to ensure school safety,” said Director John Howitt.
Neither the Sarnia Police Service, or the LKDSB have specified what the message said.
"There are no concerns for the safety of staff and students at other schools in the area," read a statement from Sarnia police.
Last week, another area high school closed temporarily for similar reasons. As a result, a youth was arrested and charged in connection with a threatening message found at Lambton Central Collegiate & Vocational School (LCCVI) in Petrolia.
The public school board said it will provide updates as they become available.
