UPDATE: Strong winds forecast Thursday

Environment Canada is forecasting strong winds for Sarnia-Lambton Thursday.

The national weather agency issued a special weather statement on Wednesday, which was upgraded to a wind warning Thursday morning. The warning later ended at 1:12 p.m.

Southwesterly winds were expected to strengthen to up to 90 kilometres an hour with the passage of a cold front.

"By Thursday evening we are expecting winds to be around 30 km/h, maybe gusting to 50, so it will improve, we just need to give it some time," said Meteorologist Gerald Cheng. "But the other big concern that we have is that people are misled by the mild temperatures that are happening. It's 14 degrees Celisus and it's not going to stay that way for the entire day, in fact temperatures are on their way down, back to sub-zero temperatures Thursday night."

Damage to buildings, such as to roof shingles and windows, may occur. Power outages are also possible.
