Swerving vehicles lead to impaired driving charges

Sarnia police are reminding the public to report suspected impaired drivers after officers recently took two swerving vehicles off the road.

At around 1:20 a.m. Saturday, March 26, police were called to London Road and Indian Road about a possible impaired driver. When the officer arrived, the suspect vehicle was seen swerving from lane to lane with no headlights on.

After the officer turned on their sirens, the suspect vehicle travelled a fair distance before coming to a stop without further incident. The suspect, a 28-year-old man from Corunna, was arrested and later provided breath samples three times the legal limit.

A second incident involving a swerving vehicle took place at around 2:40 a.m. Monday in the area Exmouth Street and Netherlands Place. Police said a vehicle was seen making a very slow turn onto Exmouth before swerving in its lane, leading to a traffic stop.

After speaking with the driver, police arrested the man for impaired operation. The 43-year-old from Burlington refused to provide a breath sample and was charged.

Both men will face a 90 day driver’s licence suspension and have their vehicle impounded for seven days.
