The Ontario government says an investment into Sarnia's OWS Rail Car will create 11 new, local jobs.
On Thursday, the province announced it could contribute $360,000 in support of a nearly $2.4 million investment by the company.
The funding, through the Regional Development Program, will help OWS expand new services, including locomotive repairs and maintenance, modify its facilities and purchase new equipment and machinery.
Sarnia-Lambton MPP Bob Bailey commented on the announcement.
"Since taking office, our government has sent a clear message that Ontario is open for business and open for jobs," said Bailey. "We’re creating an environment where businesses can focus on what they do best — developing great products and services and building successful companies. It’s great to see OWS Rail Car Inc. invest in new technology and grow their market share while creating jobs and boosting the economy of Sarnia-Lambton and Ontario."
OWS Rail Car is a privately-held corporation providing railcar repairs and maintenance at its Clifford St. location in Sarnia.
They manufacture domestic-made products, and have the ability to offer a short product development cycle time and short lead time with cost effective short run capabilities.
They also train their employees on new technologies, including positive train control and a fall arrest safety system.
In February 2021, OWS Rail Car received $832,000 in federal government funding to invest in new technology and maintenance and create local jobs.
