Work is scheduled to begin Tuesday on a major maintenance turnaround at Shell Canada's Corunna site
Maintenance, Construction and Turnaround Manager Jason Kimball said the spring turnaround is expected to take about two months to complete.
"So our turnaround this spring is primarily a maintenance event," said Kimball. "Overall what we do is we open, inspect and repair equipment across the site, setting us up for the next five plus years of continuous operation."
Kimball said they expect to have over 1,000 people on site each day during the turnaround. Residents may notice increased flaring, noise and traffic while work is completed.
He said for each zero incident day, the company will donate $1,000 towards Access Open Minds.
"Once again Shell is focused on giving back to the community as much as possible," he said. "We've set up for our 2022 turnaround a $1,000 donation per goal-zero days that we have everyone go home safely and no impact on the community or the environment."
Kimball said it's hoped they raise $70,000 for the youth mental health facility in downtown Sarnia.
In 2019, Shell donated $43,500 to Pathways Health Centre for Children through the Goal Zero Campaign.
