A local woman described as being a "passionate supporter of victim services" and a "strong team player" has been named a recipient of the 2021-2022 Attorney General's Victim Services Awards of Distinction.
Victim Services of Sarnia Lambton Executive Director Kristen Carter is thrilled that Kim Maheu is being recognized.
"Kim always goes above and beyond to offer the best support possible to our community during their time of need," said Carter. "Kim is a leader and a strong supporter of our team and the work that we do to be there for victims and survivors following their experience with crime or tragic circumstance."
Maheu has taken on various roles with the organization since 2015, including volunteer crisis responder, interim executive director and is currently a crisis intervention specialist.
"Kim is one of many incredible staff and volunteers involved in this work and by having Kim's contribution recognized in this way, it also is shining a light on the presence of our amazing team throughout the Sarnia-Lambton community."
During the pandemic, Carter said Maheu set up a very important partnership.
"She has connected with our local public health to help educate on signs of abuse and neglect in people that maybe would be coming out for the first time after extended lock downs. Signs to look for and how to refer them to victim services, as well as other community organizations that would offer support to people in that position."
A total of 11 individuals and five groups in Ontario are being honoured for their work.
