City of Sarnia declares a significant weather event

City of Sarnia officials are asking the public for cooperation as snow continues to pummel the area following a day of rain.

At around 6:30 p.m. Thursday, the city sent out an alert declaring a significant weather event due to substantial snow accumulation and ice formation on roads and sidewalks.

"During this time, motorists and pedestrians should travel in accordance to road and sidewalk conditions," the statement read. "The public is asked not to park on city streets during plowing activities and do not deposit snow on city roadways or sidewalks."

The city added that roads are being cleared with priority given to main streets and bus routes.

A winter storm warning for Sarnia-Lambton was lifted early at around 3:30 a.m. Friday.

Some roads are expected to become very slippery and police are reminding drivers to go slow, or stay home if possible.

Lambton County OPP reported several crashes and closures on the 402 late Thursday afternoon as a result of the weather.
