Sarnia man charged in unprovoked assault at restaurant

A 36-year-old Sarnia man has been charged with assault causing bodily harm after he allegedly struck someone repeatedly at a local establishment.

Sarnia police were called to a restaurant in the area of Colborne Road and Capel Street Thursday, at around 1:50 p.m.

It's alleged the accused walked into the establishment and began to hit a man for an unknown reason while the victim was waiting at the counter for an order. Police said the two did not know each other.

The accused "delivered several more blows" after the victim fell to the ground. He eventually stopped and left the scene.

With help from witnesses, police found the suspect in the area.

The accused was taken to police headquarters where he reportedly resisted officers as they tried to place him in a cell. He remains in police custody pending a bail hearing.

The victim was not taken to hospital after suffering "significant strikes" but was treated by Lambton EMS.
