'Valued Elder' of Aamjiwnaang remembered

Aamjiwnaang First Nation is mourning the death of a former councillor.

Charles Rogers, 78, passed away at Bluewater Health Friday.

Rogers, the husband of former Chief Joanne Rogers, was a long time employee of Imperial, working at the refinery for 30 years from 1973 to 2003.

In his obituary, the life-long Aamjiwnaang resident is remembered as a "valued Elder" for devoting his life to volunteering in his community, loving music and playing the guitar at many functions.

He also played many gigs throughout the province and in the United States with his band mates.

A visitation is planned at Smith Funeral Home on London Line in Sarnia on Tuesday, February 1, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

A funeral service will be held at the same location the next day, February 2, at 1 p.m.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, those wishing to attend either gathering must register online.
