Reported CRA scam a case of mistaken identity

Sarnia police say further investigation into a reported Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) fraud determined it was, in fact, not a scam.

Police said a letter received by a citizen, saying they owed over $20,000 in taxes, was a case of mistaken identity and meant for someone else with the same name.

Police said it was actually sent by the CRA.

Chief Norm Hansen said there will be no further follow up on this matter.

He's encouraging the public to continue to be vigilant with respect to possible frauds, and not to divulge any personal information online or over the phone.
