West Region OPP had eyes in the skies Wednesday to help with a traffic enforcement effort along Highway 402 in Sarnia-Lambton.
The OPP Aviation Services plane assisted in charging 14 commercial motor vehicle drivers for following too closely.
Regional Media Relations Coordinator Derek Rogers said the plane monitored a corridor east of Sarnia.
"Historically, there have been issues in Lambton with what we call end-of-queue collisions at the border. Essentially, this is where a driver rear-ends the stopped or slowing vehicle in front of them," said Rogers in an email to Sarnia News Today.
OPP have responded to a number of collisions involving transports in the area, including one late last month.
Rogers said an initiative of this kind is not uncommon in Lambton or anywhere else.
"The OPP frequently conducts operations aimed at enforcing the Highway Traffic Act in areas such as speeding, impaired, failure to wear a seat belt, aggressive driving and, in this case, following too closely."
