On Thursday we honour the men and women who have served and continue to serve our country during times of war, conflict and peace.
After being cancelled in 2020 due to the ongoing pandemic, the colour party marched from the Royal Canadian Legion on Front Street to Veterans Park for the annual Remembrance Day service.
Chief Petty Officer Matt Marshall recited in Flanders Fields for the large crowd and Legion Branch 62 President Les Jones thanked everyone who attended.
"As I look out today I am somewhat overwhelmed by the size of the crowd here today, thank you very much and Sarnia definitely remembers," said Jones.
Around 100 wreaths were laid by local government officials, various organizations and agencies and individuals at the foot of the war memorial.
The first wreath was laid by Memorial Cross Mother Pat Poland whose son Brent Poland was killed in Afghanistan.
This year marks the 100th anniversary of the cenotaph at Veterans Park, and the 100th anniversary of the poppy as a symbol of Remembrance in Canada.
