By the end of October, members of the Sarnia Police Service will be required to provide proof of vaccination against COVID-19.
The standing order includes both sworn-in and civilian members.
If someone fails to provide proof of vaccination, they will be required to present a negative antigen test on a weekly basis at their own expense.
The service said if individuals fail to comply with the standing order, they will be placed on administrative leave without pay until the requirements are met.
The measures were put in place, after much consideration, to assist in minimizing the possibility of members being seriously infected by COVID-19 or having the disease transmitted to fellow employees or the public that they serve.
A similar vaccine policy is being implemented for City of Sarnia council members and staff, as well as at Lambton College, Bluewater Health, the County of Lambton, and schools within the public and Catholic boards.
