Passenger alerts police to impaired cab driver

Sarnia police say an alert passenger notified them of an impaired taxi driver over the weekend.

On Saturday, the fare was being driven to the area of Quinn Drive, and suspected the driver was drunk.

Once the passenger was dropped off, they called police who were able to locate the cab in the area of Russell Street North.

The cabbie allegedly failed a roadside screening device and was arrested.

A 62-year-old man is charged with impaired operation of a conveyance, and for having a blood alcohol concentration of 80 plus. His drivers' licence was suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was impounded for a week.

The accused's first court appearance is scheduled for November 9 in Sarnia.
