Life ring damaged at Blue Water Bridge

Lambton OPP are investigating the vandalism of an emergency life ring cabinet at the Blue Water Bridge.

Police said the life-saving equipment, located at the end of Michigan Avenue where the road meets the waterfront parking lot, was damaged sometime between Saturday evening and early Sunday morning.

The life rings were purchased and installed by Point Edward Fire & Rescue, and cost around $1,000.  The department said if someone needed it for rescue purposes, it wouldn't have been in place.

The fire department added that there have been several other issues at the waterfront park of late, including damage to the bathroom pumps and faucet, graffiti on bathroom walls, defecating on  bathroom floors, damage to the splash pad accessible door and changing table, and damage to sprinkler heads.

Point Edward Fire said the destruction and vandalism of these items is disgraceful.

At this time, there is still one cabinet with a life ring remaining.  The vandalized cabinet has been removed.

Anyone with information is ask to contact OPP at 1-888-310-1122, or Sarnia-Lambton Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
