Successful Olympic debut for Dawn-Euphemia sprint cyclist

It was a successful Olympic debut for a young sprint cyclist from Dawn-Euphemia.

Nick Wammes advanced to the 1/16 finals of the men's sprint event, he set a personal best time of 9.587, and he beat a former world champion during his time in Tokyo.

Wammes failed to advance to the 1/8 finals after falling to four-time Olympian Azizulhasni Awang of Malaysia Wednesday.  The 21-year-old was the youngest competitor in the Olympic sprint event.

Wammes represented Canada at the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, and won three national titles at the 2019 Canadian Championships, finishing first in the keirin, sprint and team sprint events.
