Rotary After Hours hosting food drive Saturday

The Rotary Club of Sarnia-Lambton After Hours is continuing its Canada Day tradition of collecting non-perishable food donations for the Inn of the Good Shepherd.

President Don Anderson said traditionally the club would collect donations along the parade route, but with it cancelled again this year, they have another plan.

"We're looking for, besides the usual things like peanut butter, pasta, and canned goods, some things that folks can prepare if they're in one of the hotel facilities and only have access to a microwave," said Anderson. "Things like microwavable soups would be greatly helpful."

He said Rotarians will be stationed at four locations Saturday.

"We're going to be at Kyle's No Frills (Indian and Exmouth Streets), Ken's Valu-Mart (Cathcart Avenue), Foodland in Bright's Grove and WalMart on Quinn Drive."

Anderson is hopeful the community's generosity shines once again.

"Last year we did a bit of a canvass in some of the neighbourhoods and we actually collected about three times what we normally collect along the parade route, which was eye opening. We're hoping that we can match what we collected last year."

The collection will run from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at each site.
