Five people have been charged and a local resident who tried to protect a neighbour's property is recovering following a violent attack.
Sarnia police said a group of five individuals cut through a residential yard in the area of Wellington Street and Murphy Road around 12 a.m. Saturday.
A neighbour spotted and confronted the group, suggesting they take another route.
It's alleged the group surrounded the male, dragged him to the ground and proceeded to punch and kick him.
Police said one of the attackers used a knife to slash the victim's wrist.
The victim suffered severed arteries and tendons and underwent an eight-hour surgery at a hospital in London in order to avoid amputation.
Police said it's unknown if the victim will regain full hand function.
Micole Hilliker-Frost, 18, of Sarnia and four others under the age of 18 were all charged with aggravated assault.
