Local Red Kettle fundraiser surpasses goal despite pandemic

Despite challenges presented by the pandemic in 2020, the Salvation Army's Red Kettle fundraising campaign surpassed its goal.

Lieutenant Brad Webster said they raised $166,360, well beyond the $140,000 target.

"I just want to say thank you to the community and to our corporate sponsors, and everybody who has either helped out at a kettle or supported a kettle," said Webster.

Webster said the money will be put to good use.

"That money stays here locally in Lambton county," he said. "It goes toward our food bank, our programs, our rental utility assistance, dental, medical, eyeglasses, travel, and things like that."

The Salvation Army used tip tap machines as a way to promote contactless donations.

In 2019, the campaign brought in $164,745.
