Sarnia Transit gearing up for full service in September

Sarnia Transit is working toward full reinstatement of its service Sunday, September 6.

Superintendent Andrew Savor said they're confident of meeting that timeline.

"Although the implementation is dependent upon resources, we're confident we'll be able to accommodate our riders in the fall, particularly the college students," said Savor.

Ridership to and from Lambton College, however, isn't likely to be as high this fall.

The college has announced it's focusing on online learning and President Judy Morris is estimating enrollment will be about a third of what it is normally.

Savor said city buses are currently on a modified Saturday service from Monday through Saturday.

"We added several buses. The 2 Devine, 11 George and the 8 Sherwood Village. Those are the changes that took effect on August 4, and will remain in effect until at least September."

No changes have been made to the Sunday service.

He said they truly appreciate how the riding public has responded to changes they've been forced to enact during the pandemic.

"Sarnians were complying with mask usage, [they were] extraordinarily patient with service level adjustments and complementary to the drivers -- the front line operators who operated buses every single day since March 16 when the pandemic essentially began," he said.
