Unlikely Stanley Cup Stamkos goal, SI Play of the Year

Former Sarnia Sting star Steven Stamkos' unlikely Stanley Cup goal has been chosen by Sports Illustrated as its 2020 Play of the Year.

Battling a lower body injury, the Tampa Bay Lightning captain's time on the ice during the entire playoffs amounted to just two minutes and 47 seconds in Game 3 of the final against the Dallas Stars. Despite that, he managed to score a vintage Stamkos goal, and the Lightning went on to claim the franchise's second Stanley Cup with a 2-0 win in Game 6.

Stamkos suited up for the celebration, fulfilling his dream of hoisting the cup as captain.
