City considering designating parking spots for restaurant takeout, pickup

Sarnia has come up with another plan to help restaurant owners in the downtown and Mitton Village.

Mayor Mike Bradley said designating one, on-street parking space, immediately adjacent to an establishment, for takeout or curbside pickup is recommended.

"I think it's a very positive idea and step forward to allow them to have these curbside pickups, one at every restaurant, not to use the loading zones, which was the original idea because that then would deny the people dropping off to businesses the opportunity to have a guaranteed parking spot. So, I think this is a really good compromise."

Bradley said they're doing everything they can to support local businesses.

"There wouldn't be any cost to the business. They can designate the spot and then they can use that for pickup."

If approved Monday, a pilot program would run from December 15 to April 30, 2021.
