Ditched vehicles being removed after snowstorm

Some residents in Sarnia-Lambton and beyond were digging out Wednesday following the first significant snow event of the season.

As December arrived, a slow moving, moisture-laden low pressure system dumped heavy snow across parts of southwestern Ontario.

Snow accumulations varied greatly with as little as five centimetres in Sarnia and higher amounts immediately east including Bright's Grove and other parts of Lambton County.

Environment Canada reported Wednesday that Strathroy received 29 centimetres, nearly a foot of snow, and London airport recorded 23 centimetres.

A number of vehicles slid off snow-packed, icy and drifted-on roads in the area.

OPP said Highway 402 will be closed periodically Wednesday between Forest Road and Oil Heritage Road for the removal of stranded vehicles.
