Sarnia police looking for witnesses to rooftop car crash

Police are asking witnesses to come forward after a crash sent a vehicle flying through the air and onto the roof of a Sarnia home.

Sarnia police were initially called to a separate two-vehicle crash in the area of Christina Street and Michigan Avenue just after 6:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Officers arrived to find that one of the vehicles had left the scene and then were informed a short time later that a car had hit a home at Christina Street North and Lakeshore Road.

The vehicle was found hanging off the roof. There also appeared to be extensive damage other vehicles in the driveway of the residence and utility poles, one of which had been snapped off and was left hanging by the power lines.

The driver had to be extricated from the vehicle with the help of Sarnia Fire and Rescue and was taken to hospital, treated, and released.

Police say no one inside the home was injured but damage to the dwelling and the vehicles parked in the driveway is extensive.

The investigation was ongoing and no charges have been laid yet.

Anyone with information about either collision, or who may have video surveillance of the area between 6:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday is asked to contact Cst. Ron Szabo at 519-344-8861, ext 6127.
