Woman charged after dog left in hot car

An Etobicoke woman has been charged after a dog had to be rescued from a hot car in Grand Bend.

The Ontario Provincial Police said on August 13 at around 2:30 p.m., officers responded to calls about a dog yelping from inside a locked vehicle that was parked on Government Road.

The dog was reportedly inside a nylon pet carrier with a wool blanket. The vehicle was also parked in full sunlight with all the doors and windows closed, except for a two-inch opening in the sunroof.

Officers were able to get the vehicle unlocked to rescue the dog which had been in distress.

The owner of the dog attended the Lambton OPP detachment around 50 minutes later to retrieve the animal.

As a result, 27-year-old Arthi Sabapathi of Etobicoke has been charged with causing damage or injury to an animal by failing to provide suitable food, water, care, and shelter. She is scheduled to appear in court on October 19.
