Lambton OPP say over 70 per cent of the motor vehicles and trailers inspected in a recent blitz were taken out of service.
Police said on Saturday, August 8 a total of 21 inspections were conducted in Point Edward with 15 vehicles being removed from the road.
Lambton OPP and the transportation ministry remind the public that every motor vehicle, other than a motorcycle, when driven on a highway must be equipped with at least two braking systems, which means the regular brakes and also the emergency or parking brake must be in working order at all times. There should be regular testing, at a safe location and only while in idle, to ensure secondary brakes are functioning and are capable of holding the vehicle from moving.
The public is also reminded that any motor vehicle and trailer that is 2.05 metres wide or 6.10 metres long (combined) requires functional turn signals and brake lights at all times. Running lights are required 30 minutes before sunset until 30 minutes after sunrise. Each trailer needs to have a plate affixed to it, and that plate needs to be properly registered, belong to the owner of the trailer and be on the proper trailer.
