Planned Petrolia area house burn to provide training for firefighters

Smoke and flames will be visible near Petrolia Sunday afternoon.

The Petrolia and North Enniskillen Fire Department is planning to burn down a house in the 5500 block of Petrolia Line, east of Oil Heritage Road, from approximately 3 p.m. to 9 p.m.

A large number of firefighters and equipment will be on scene, but the fire service says the public need not be alarmed.

Live exercises like this provide an invaluable form of training for firefighters.

A number of scenarios will be played out before crews let the structure burn.

The fire department asks motorists to pass by the area with caution and refrain from stopping on the road or shoulder to watch.
