Threat of severe thunderstorms as heat wave continues

It's going to be a blistering hot day again Thursday.

Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for eastern Lambton County.

There's the chance of severe weather developing as the heat and humidity build.

Scattered storms, capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain, are expected to develop this afternoon and evening.

The main threat will be the potential for heavy rain in excess of 50 millimetres (two inches) in an hour.

A heat warning is still in effect for Sarnia-Lambton with a high of 35 C, and a humidex of 41 C forecast on Thursday.

A slightly cooler air mass may move into the area this weekend.
