Fatal Sarnia apartment fire accidental, victim's identity not released

A 65-year-old woman has died as a result of smoke inhalation in a seventh-floor apartment fire early Tuesday.

Sarnia Fire & Rescue sent 19 firefighters from four stations to the 800 block of Trillium Park at around 3:18 a.m.

City police Cst. Nelson Amaral said Thursday the fire is not suspicious and the cause is listed as accidental.

The victim's identity will not be released at the request of her family.

Smoke and flames were visible in the apartment unit when firefighters arrived. They were able to quickly remove the lone occupant and bring the situation under control.

The woman was rushed to Bluewater Health by Lambton EMS but later pronounced dead.
