Father-daughter pair from Inwood hit $16M lottery jackpot

A retired Inwood tank cleaner received a Father's Day gift like no other this year when the lottery ticket he received from his daughter turned into a $16 million jackpot.

John Wright, 88, and his daughter Melissa, a 47-year-old nurse, won $16,058,552.50 in the June 24 LOTTO 6/49 draw. The pair matched all six numbers and also matched the last number on their ENCORE selection.

Melissa discovered their win when she checked their ticket on the OLG Lottery App.

“I couldn’t believe my eyes and I checked it a few more times. I was so excited I couldn’t sleep!"

John said he'll be purchasing a new car with some of the winnings.

“And now, the price is no object!” he said. “Otherwise, we’ll be putting the money into an investment while we let this win sink in. It’s great. For so many years I did without and it’s wonderful for me to have this financial freedom."

The winning ticket was purchased at Hogan Pharmacy on Petrolia Line in Petrolia.
