UPDATE: One dead following Trillium Park fire

Sarnia police say a female who was rushed to hospital after a fire at a Sarnia high-rise overnight has died.

19 firefighters from four stations responded to the 800 block of Trillium Park at around 3:18 a.m. Tuesday.

Sarnia Fire and Rescue Services said when they arrived, smoke and flames were visible in an upper storey apartment unit.

Deputy Chief Bryan Vangaver said they were able to quickly remove the lone occupant from the fire and bring the situation under control.

The victim was taken to Bluewater Health by Lambton EMS.

Sarnia police Cst. Nelson Amaral confirmed the victim, a female, was pronounced dead at hospital.

Her identity was being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
