Police investigate suspicious package

Sarnia police and Lambton OPP cordoned off a section of the city on Monday morning due to a suspicious package.

Police were called to the 1100 block of Brenchley Street at around 7:44 a.m.

Murphy Road was closed between London Road and Ryan Street, and Brenchley Street was closed between Elizabeth Avenue and Murphy Road for several hours.

Motorists were being asked to avoid the area during the investigation and homes were evacuated as a precaution.

The OPP's Explosives Disposal Unit deemed the package not to be explosive and it's unknown where it originated from.

Anyone with further details is asked to call police.

The roadways reopened at around 1:15 p.m.
