LifeLabs has revealed it was the subject of a recent cybersecurity attack.
President and CEO Charles Brown is apologizing for the breach.
"Through proactive surveillance, LifeLabs recently identified a cyber-attack that involved unauthorized access to our computer systems with customer information that could include name, address, email, login, passwords, date of birth, health card number and lab test results," said Brown. "Personally, I want to say I am sorry that this happened. As we manage through this issue, my team and I remain focused on the best interests of our customers. You entrust us with important health information, and we take that responsibility very seriously."
Brown said cybersecurity experts have indicated the risk to customers is low and that the system issues related to the breach have been fixed.
LifeLabs, which has three locations in Sarnia-Lambton, paid an unspecified ransom to secure stolen data including test results.
Brown said they've notified the privacy commissioner of the attack and taken steps to strengthen cyber defences.
LifeLabs is offering customers one free year of protection that includes dark web monitoring and identity theft insurance.
