UPDATE Risk of severe thunderstorms Wednesday

Environment Canada has now ended a severe thunderstorm watch for Sarnia-Lambton

The watch was elevated to a severe thunderstorm warning at mid-afternoon Wednesday, but was downgraded back to watch shortly after 6 p.m.

The national weather agency was tracking a severe thunderstorm capable of producing very strong wind gusts, up to nickel size hail and heavy rain. The severe thunderstorm was located six kilometres northwest of Point Edward, moving east at 30 km/h around 3:15 p.m.

Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads.

The Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches.
